Why "The Pet Why"?
Most pet stores work backwards from a warehouse: they have 500 SKUs and need copy for each. We work forwards from behavior. When a dog gulps food in 20 seconds, or a cat treats the water bowl like furniture, or a dog walks you โ there's a reason. It's usually evolutionary, sometimes medical, always explainable.
How we choose what we sell
Every product in our store has to pass one test: can we explain the behavioral mechanism it works through?
- Slow feeder bowls change the physics of a bowl, not the dog โ that's why they work from meal one.
- Lick mats channel a self-soothing behavior dogs already use.
- Water fountains answer three desert-cat instincts that still run your kitchen.
- Front-clip harnesses make pulling mechanically pointless instead of punishing it.
- Donut beds recreate the den boundary anxious sleepers build out of your furniture.
That's why we carry five products, not five hundred. When a new product earns its mechanism, it joins. When one can't, it doesn't.
What we won't do
- We won't sell products that claim to fix medical problems. Bedding doesn't cure anxiety disorders; bowls don't prevent bloat; if your vet needs to be involved, our guides say so.
- We won't write guides that bury the answer under 800 words of filler. Every guide opens with the answer.
- We don't seed fake reviews. Review sections on our product pages stay empty until real customers fill them. When we have reviews, they'll be whatever customers actually wrote โ including the critical ones.
Educational content disclaimer
Our guides are educational content based on veterinary behavior science and reviewed for accuracy โ but they are not veterinary advice, and they don't create a vet-client relationship. If something's wrong with your pet, that's a vet visit, not a blog post.
